Sons of the Forest Cooking Recipes

Tap what you have to see which pot recipes you can cook now, what you are missing, and which dish the pot will actually make.

What do you have?

Tap an ingredient once for each one you carry, so two taps on Meat means 2 Meat. Use the minus button to take one back. What you can cook updates below as you go.

Meat and seafood

Body parts

Mushrooms

Berries

Herbs

Supplies

Recipes that call for eggs mean Turtle Eggs.

Your ingredients and counts are saved in this browser for next time.

What you can cook

Tap ingredients above and this list shows what you can cook and what is missing.

Only have water? Fill the pot, set it on a fire and you get Clean Water.

What will the pot cook?

Uses the ingredients and counts you tapped above, as if everything goes into one pot. No need to enter them again.

Tap ingredients above and this shows which dish the pot makes from all of them.

Leave out anything the dish does not use. You can take ingredients back out of the pot.

All 13 recipes

A pot gives 4 servings, and the cooking screen shows what the whole pot restores. Buffs last 4 in-game hours. The x1 to x3 after a buff is its strength, listed by only one guide, so treat it as a rough guide.

Kelvin Special

Ingredients

  • Fish ×3
  • Oyster ×1

Effects

  • Fills thirst
  • Fills hunger
  • Restores some health
  • Chopping×1

Where to find ingredients

Broad areas only. Exact spots vary in game.

Hunting
Meat
Raw meat comes from the animals you hunt.
By the water
Fish, Oyster
Spear fish in rivers and lakes or set a fish trap, and pick up oysters by the ocean. Both spoil fast.
From cannibals
Severed Arm, Severed Leg, Severed Head
Taken from cannibal bodies. One body gives the head, both arms and both legs that Greg needs.
Foraging
Shiitake, King Oyster, Hydnum Repandum, Fly Amanita, Blueberries, Twinberries, Salmonberries, Guarana Berries, Aloe Vera, Chicory
Pick mushrooms, berries and herbs in the wild. Since 1.0 you can also grow Twinberries from seeds.
Scavenging
Turtle Egg, Vodka Bottle, Ramen Noodles, Meds
No fixed spot. Grab them whenever you come across them.
Cooking pot
You cannot craft a cooking pot. Find one at campsites with tents or in the kitchen area of the residential bunker.

How cooking works in Sons of the Forest

Cooking pot meals arrived in Patch 05 in May 2023 and were last rebalanced in the 1.0 release on February 22, 2024. Nothing about the recipes has changed since, so the 13 recipes on this page (Clean Water plus 12 dishes) are the full current list.

  1. Find a pot. You cannot craft one; they sit at campsites and in the residential bunker.
  2. Fill it at a lake or river and set it on a lit fire with E.
  3. Drop the ingredients in from your inventory. Hold E and a gear icon lists every recipe the pot can make right now.
  4. Wait for it to finish. One pot gives 4 servings, and the cooking screen shows what the whole pot restores, not one serving.

Every dish refills thirst, nearly all of them refill hunger too, and most add a buff that lasts 4 in-game hours. Two rules catch people out. Rotten ingredients are refused since 1.0, and if the fire is destroyed while the pot is still cooking, the pot goes back to plain water.

Which dish to cook for what you are about to do

  • Clearing trees for a base: Lumberjack Juice or Greg, both with the strongest chopping buff. Kelvin Special adds a smaller one if all you have is fish and an oyster.
  • Raiding a cave or camp: Greg for stealth plus strength in one pot. Cream of Mushroom if you only want stealth and have the four mushrooms.
  • Heading into the snow: Egg Nog has the highest warmth level. Jam is the berry option.
  • A long day with no sleep: Kitchen Sink tops up every meter including stamina and rest, and Liquid Battery refills stamina and rest from berries alone.
  • Just need food fast: Boiled Meat takes two pieces of raw meat and still adds a strength buff.

Using the ingredient lookup and the pot simulator

  1. Tap each ingredient once for every one you are carrying, so two pieces of meat means two taps. Tapped one too many? Use the minus button next to it.
  2. A one-line summary sits at the bottom of the ingredient grid (on a phone it stays pinned to the bottom of the screen): how many dishes you can cook now and how many are close. Tap it to jump to the results.
  3. The results list the dishes you have enough of everything for, then the ones that are almost there, with what is missing and how many. The closest come first, and dishes that need more are tucked under an expandable list.
  4. The pot simulator uses the same counts, so there is nothing to enter twice. It tells you which dish comes out if everything goes into one pot, and what to leave out if you want a different one. You can also open it and adjust the amounts yourself.
  5. Each recipe card shows how many you have against how many it needs. Filter by an effect such as Strength or Chopping and the dishes you are closest to move to the top.
  6. Your ingredients and counts are saved in this browser, so they are still there the next time you load the page mid-session.

Why the pot sometimes cooks a different dish

The pot does not ask what you want. When the contents satisfy several recipes, it cooks the one with the most ingredients. That rule is stated in the Patch 07 notes, which fixed a bug where it did not always happen. Lumberjack Juice contains everything Boiled Meat needs, so a pot loaded for Lumberjack Juice never turns into Boiled Meat, and a pot with two meat plus a few extras may cook something bigger than you planned.

The patch notes do not say whether "most ingredients" means kinds or individual items. Most of the time both readings pick the same dish. A few pairs clash, such as Lumberjack Juice against Kitchen Sink and Liquid Battery against Jam. For those, the simulator does not guess. It tells you which ingredient to take out so the dish you want is the one that cooks. The safest move is still to put in only what that dish calls for, and you can take ingredients back out of the pot.

Before you rely on it

  • The data matches the game from 1.0 onward and was last checked on 2026-10-22. The game has had no recipe changes since 1.0, and Endnight has moved on to developing its next game.
  • Restores are described as full or partial, not as percentages. Only one guide lists percentages and none of the others back them up, so exact numbers would be more misleading than helpful.
  • For a few dishes the guides list different amounts. Those cards carry a Sources disagree tag and show what most guides say. If a dish will not cook, the note inside the card tells you what to top up.
  • The icons on this page are generic symbols, not the in-game art. The game shows its own buff icons when a dish is active.
  • Sons of the Forest is a trademark of Endnight Games. This page is an independent fan tool and is not affiliated with Endnight Games.

Frequently asked questions

What do the food buffs do in Sons of the Forest?

There are five. Strength is listed by IGN as faster strength gain, and players who tested it report harder melee hits. Chopping makes you cut trees faster. Stealth makes you harder to spot while crouching. Warmth keeps the cold off, which matters in the snow and at night. Comfort means you recover more rest while you sleep. Every buff lasts 4 in-game hours, down from 8 since Patch 06. Greg is the only dish with three buffs at once.

Why did my pot cook a different dish than I wanted?

When the ingredients in the pot satisfy more than one recipe, the game cooks the one with the most ingredients. Patch 07 fixed a bug where it did not always do that. So if you drop five meat, three fish, chicory and meds into a pot hoping for Boiled Meat, you get Lumberjack Juice. Put in only what the dish you want needs, or take the extras back out first. The pot simulator on this page shows which dish wins for the ingredients you tap, and what to leave out to get the one you want.

Can you cook rotten meat in Sons of the Forest?

No. The 1.0 patch notes from February 22, 2024 say rotten items can no longer be used in cooking. Older forum posts and wiki pages that say rotten meat boils fine were written before 1.0, and players replying to those threads in 2026 confirm it no longer works. Dry your meat on a drying rack instead, because dried food stops rotting.

How many eggs does Egg Nog take?

Four turtle eggs and one bottle of vodka. The 1.0 patch notes changed the recipe to 4 eggs, so guides that say 5 are describing the version before 1.0. Egg Nog gives the strongest warmth buff in the game, which makes it the dish to cook before a trip into the snow.

Do cooked meals spoil in the pot?

The sources disagree, so check in your own game. The fandom wiki says pot dishes never spoil. wiki.gg says Boiled Meat, Cooked Ramen Noodles and Jam spoil and the rest do not. The 1.0 patch notes only say cooked food takes twice as long to rot as raw food, which may refer to meat and fish cooked over the fire rather than dishes in the pot.

Where do I find a cooking pot?

You cannot craft one. Pots sit at campsites with modern tents around the island, and Patch 05 added one in the tech apartment of the residential bunker. Once you have a pot, fill it at a lake or river, set it on a lit fire and press E. Holding E brings up a gear icon that lists the recipes you can cook with what is in the pot.

Sources and how we checked them

Recipes, amounts and effects are game facts. We compiled them ourselves by reading the official patch notes and several guides and comparing them line by line. We did not copy text, tables or images from any wiki, and we do not call any wiki API.

Where the sources disagree

Most recipes match across every source we checked. These do not, so their cards carry a Sources disagree tag and show the majority view:

  • Cooked Ramen Noodles: IGN, GGRecon, TheGamer and the fandom wiki say one pack, while wiki.gg and gamebrief (October 2026) say two. None of them cite anything, so we list one, the majority. IGN and wiki.gg say it partly fills hunger, GGRecon says it fills it.
  • Cream of Mushroom: Metaforge (last updated before 1.0) says three, while IGN, GGRecon, TheGamer and both wikis say one. The December 6, 2023 patch notes mention adjusting "some cooking recipes and values" without details, which may be when it changed, so we list one.
  • Protein Shake: IGN groups it with Kitchen Sink and Lumberjack Juice (more health), while wiki.gg groups it with the ordinary dishes (some). The six ingredients match across every source.
  • Do cooked dishes spoil? The fandom wiki says pot dishes never spoil. wiki.gg marks Boiled Meat, Cooked Ramen Noodles and Jam as spoiling and the rest as not. The 1.0 patch notes only say cooked food takes twice as long to rot as raw food, without saying whether that means meat and fish cooked over the fire or dishes in the pot.
  • Buff levels and exact restore amounts Only wiki.gg lists buff levels (x1 to x3) and exact percentages, in a table added in September 2026 that no other guide has. So we show the levels as a rough guide and describe restores as full or partial, which every source agrees on.
  • Does "most ingredients" mean kinds or total items? Patch 07 only says the pot cooks the satisfied recipe with the most ingredients. It does not say whether that counts kinds of ingredients or the total number of items. The two usually agree. The pairs that clash are Lumberjack Juice against Kitchen Sink (4 kinds and 14 items against 6 kinds and 11 items) and Liquid Battery against Jam (2 kinds and 20 items against 3 kinds and 15 items). For those, the pot simulator tells you what to take out so the dish you want is the one that cooks.

Two older disagreements are settled by the official patch notes:

  • Egg Nog: 4 eggs or 5? Four. The 1.0 patch notes changed it to 4 eggs. Metaforge and other older guides that say 5 predate 1.0.
  • Can rotten meat go in the pot? No. The 1.0 patch notes (February 22, 2024) say rotten items can no longer be used in cooking. Posts saying otherwise date from before 1.0, and players replying in 2026 confirm it no longer works.
