General

The tools, results, data and articles on ToolMaple are general information and first approximations. They are not medical, legal, financial, nutritional, tax or any other kind of professional advice, and nothing here creates a professional relationship of any kind. How you act on a result, and what follows from it, is your own responsibility.

Health calculators

The BMI, BMR, TDEE and body fat tools apply published formulas, such as Mifflin St Jeor and the World Health Organization BMI categories. They are estimates, not a diagnosis:

  • Individual variation is large: muscle mass, frame size, body composition, chronic conditions, medication, pregnancy and athletic training all change what a number means.
  • No substitute for an assessment: a high BMI does not by itself mean poor health, and a low one does not by itself mean undernourishment.
  • Who these do not fit: people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, children and teenagers, athletes and older adults all need thresholds that these general formulas do not apply.
  • See a clinician first: for any concern about weight, nutrition or metabolism, speak to a doctor, a registered dietitian or a qualified trainer rather than acting on a web calculator.

Pregnancy calculator

The due date calculator applies Naegele’s rule and the usual IVF counts. An estimated due date is a statistical midpoint, not an appointment: most births happen in the weeks around it, and few happen on it. Cycle length, ovulation timing and the age of a transferred embryo all shift the estimate, and a first trimester ultrasound dates a pregnancy far more reliably than any arithmetic. When your clinic’s date differs from the one here, your clinic is right. Nothing on that page is prenatal care or a substitute for it.

Money and legal calculators

Calculators that deal with money, tax, interest or statutory entitlements produce an illustration based on the figures you enter and the rules in force when the page was written. Rates change, laws are amended, and the terms of an individual contract or the facts of an individual case can override the general rule entirely. Before signing anything or relying on a number, confirm it with your bank, your accountant, a lawyer or the relevant authority. Several of these tools are built around Taiwanese rules and do not transfer to another jurisdiction.

Sources and accuracy

Each tool names its sources and sticks to public, authoritative, traceable ones such as the Unicode Consortium, the World Health Organization, NIST and the peer reviewed literature. Even so:

  • A source can be revised before this site catches up, and external data and platform behavior change without notice
  • An original source can itself be wrong, or two versions of it can disagree
  • An implementation can carry rounding differences or a plain calculation error

If you find something wrong, tell me through the contact page. A link to an authoritative source makes the fix much faster.
